Stop Managing Time (Do This Instead)

Hey,

If you’re like me, it’s the end of the school year, transitioning into summer, and your calendar is bursting at the seams. Our 3 kids are in middle school and high school… so the end of year projects, productions, and performances has us running fast! Add in my Gramps’ funeral and sickness and this is us these days… 🤪

When the calendar gets this bonkers, this is precisely when I remember my most valuable leadership lesson:

Manage your energy more than your time.

Time is finite—we all get the same 24 hours. But energy? Energy is expansive when properly cultivated.

My first coach, Dr. Jack Groppel, taught me this principle 20 years ago and it’s transformed my approach to life and leadership. I now regularly assess what energizes me versus what exhausts me, making intentional adjustments every six months as life and leadership require shifts.

When I identified that scheduling meetings 5 days/week was energy exhausting, I blocked Mondays and Fridays for creative and strategic work. And I saw my efforts maximized. Such a simple change with massive impact!

You can experience this shift too. We’ve created a free Energy Expanders Guide that helps you identify your unique energy patterns and implement immediate changes. Download it here.

Pro Tip: I do this exercise every 6 months and make changes in my calendar and priorities because life and leadership is dynamic. ⚡️

What energized you last year might not be what you need right now. You get to make changes!
